It’s Friday night and I’m sitting at home contemplating the meaning of life. Okay not quite, but I did have a fleeting thought of why I get giddy with excitement at the prospect of sleeping early and waking up late (can you tell I’m old). Anyway, we’ve been having random days of gorgeous weather. The kind where you want to jump out of bed and just do something. So it was one of those days. I jumped out ecstatic at the prospect of a lovely day, until I looked in my wardrobe. Rummaging through for some colourful pieces, I realised everything I owned was black. Not even varying shades of black. Just black, black and more black. I triumphantly held up one decent dress that wasn’t black, only to realise to my horror it was grey! (Isn’t that a variant of black? I think it is?) Clearly a colour shopping trip was well overdue, which is how the inspiration for this outfit came about.
This shade of nude is so flattering and feminine. I’ve always been a huge fan of wrap dresses in general (only because they’re quite flattering) but the slightly longer sleeve length and tie detail make this dress ultra pretty. The fabric is perfect for a warm day (I know we don’t get many of those) and can be easily worn with a long cardigan on cooler days. The fabric is quite sheer and the neckline is quite low. so a straight or round necked vest top (available from every major retailer H&M being my favourite choice) would be perfect underneath.
This bag has pearls. Did I mention this bag has pearls? I love pearls. They’re a gorgeous shade of cream and they sparkle. I’m like a magpie when it comes to shiny things. Okay I just googled it and fun fact of the day apparently magpies don’t like shiny things?! Wait when did that happen? (2014 research… I didn’t realise I was so behind!) Clearly we have to rethink that phrase. Back to the bag, it’s small (very on trend) and has enough glamour to dress up any outfit.
This hijab from Hijab Jewels (on Instagram) has both lace and pearls. Both these are absolutely everywhere right now and they add a beautiful touch to any clothing they adorn. Lace hijabs are quite difficult to style but luckily in the age of vlogging, youtube has atleast a dozen vloggers showing how to style them correctly.
Jeans are perfect with any outfit and the best part about them is they definitely pass my knee bend test (see previous post). I’ve never been too particular about where I shop as long as the items are stylish and good quality which is why it’s great that even supermarket branded clothing is on par with all the regular highstreet brands.
I do occasionally wear heels, but on warmer days, flats are more comfortable (as I tend to walk more) and more practical (especially on the underground). The nude colour and pearls (you can never have too many pearls in my opinion) give these sliders a statement look. The shape and style are very flattering for any type of feet and the fit caters nicely to wide feet. At £110 they may feel slightly steep to buy, but Kurt Geiger regularly run promotions so it would be quite easy to get these for under a £100. They are definitely worth the investment for Summer and would be perfect to take on holiday!
